The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) an affiliate of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) with branches in all 36 states of the country including the Federal Capital Territory, saddled with the welfare of General Medical and Dental professionals in the Employment of Government at the federal, states and Local Government areas levels had its Federal Capital Territory branch conduct her Scientific Conference, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections on the 3rd of April, 2025 with the emergence of a new state officer’s Council (SOC) to be Headed by the newly inaugurated State Chairman, in person of Dr. OKOREAFFIA O. Ogbonnaya. MBBS, MPH, MBA, MISMN.
The New Chairman has promised to prioritize the welfare of its members, build a Brick and mortar secretariat for the noble association; Advocacy for Government Hospital leadership in various forms by her members on Management cadre (Grade level 15 – 17) that have postgraduate qualifications or additional proficiency in specific areas which add value to patient healthcare service delivery, Robust support and collaborations with its National body on plans for GP allowances for all Medical Officers employed by Government (similar to the specialist allowances enjoyed by consultants); Membership drive and expansion of the numeric strength of the association; Efficient adaptation and Preparation of members for retirement with regards to access to federal government provided facilities such as Pension fund, National Housing fund, Health insurance etc; Assessibility to Civil Service training and retraining programs for staff in service, Human resource talent retention programmes and Organisational workforce efficiency; Postgraduate training fund for members interested in acquiring postgraduates degrees as a masters degree, PhD degree and post doctoral degrees; Specialised Management training for staff reserved for management cadre level (15 – 17) such as trainings by the Nigerian institute of Management (Chartered), Centre for Management development(CMD) and Institute of strategic management of Nigeria (chartered); Facilitation of short duration impactful training for members; unveil interesting welfare packages for members, Just to mention a few of his lofty goals for this enviable association.
