DICON SEEKS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH BPP TO ALIGN WITH “NIGERIA FIRST” POLICY
In a major step towards enhancing local military manufacturing and national self-reliance, the Director-General of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and his team paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General/CEO, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, FCIPS, at his office in Abuja.
The high-level engagement focused on establishing a structured partnership between both agencies to fully operationalise the Federal Government’s “Nigeria First” policy within the defence and security sectors, to boost domestic defence investments.
DG BPP commended the DICON leadership for taking proactive steps to engage BPP for procurement regulatory mechanisms.
Dr. Adedokun reiterated that the Nigeria First Policy mandates Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to prioritise domestic products and services without compromising quality or global benchmark.
He stated that the “Nigeria First” policy is one of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformative agenda, an approach which emphasised domestic preference enforcement that gives indigenous defence producers and local military supplier the first right of refusal for defence related procurement.
Dr. Adedokun affirmed the BPP’s commitment to collaborating with DICON to streamline procurement frameworks and institutionalise domestic preference standards.
Earlier, the Director-General of DICON, Major General, Babatunde Ibrahim Alaya, stated that partnering with BPP will ensure a robust institutional alliance designed to integrate defence investments into the Nigeria First Policy framework, ensuring national security expenditure directly boosts industrial growth and job creation.
Major-General Alaya emphasised that DICON is committed to ensuring that the national security needs are met here at home and collaborating with BPP is essential to aligning the agency’s procurement pathways to enforce local content compliance and ensuring that public funds spent on defence yield measurable economic returns for the nation.
The meeting was concluded with both agencies agreeing to establish a joint technical working committee to formalise the operational roadmap for implementation.
