The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita has called on the Ministry of Science and Technology to think outside the box and bring up ideas to develop the country.
Mrs. Oyo-Ita said Science and Technology is the bedrock and centre of development in Nigeria. The Ministry should therefore develop innovative ways to improve the functions of essential everyday things that will improve the life of Nigerians.
The Head of Service of the Federation gave this challenge during the Peer Review Meeting of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology on Thursday, 3rd May, 2018 in Abuja.
The Head of the Civil Service acknowledged some of the problems responsible for the Ministry’s poor performance in science and technology to include lack of exposure, inadequate training, lack of ideas and lack of an enabling environment which can foster ideas and innovation.
Mrs. Oyo-Ita reiterated Government’s commitment toward improving the welfare of Civil Servants in to motivate and bring out the best in them.
She advised on the need to engage more with the private sector under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) to execute some of the laudable projects of the Ministry including welfare projects.
Earlier in her opening remarks Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr (Mrs.) Amina Bello Shamaki thanked the Head of Civil Service of the Federation for resuscitating the Peer Review Exercise.
According to her it is a veritable avenue for diagnosing the root causes of the different challenges facing the service. It will also widen the perspective of the Permanent Secretaries; and identity the areas where different Ministries, Departments and Agencies can play complimentary roles and synergise towards a more robust and effective implementation of Policies, programmes and projects.
