The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu played host to the Executive Governor of Imo State His Excellency Hope Uzodinma who was on a solidarity visit to the Corps, headquarters, Abuja.
The Corps Chief Executive posited that NSCDC is a specialized Agency which through its mandate has transformed the security architecture in Nigeria by restoring the much needed confidence of the people and ensuring effective execution of its mandate without compromise.
He reiterated that apart from the conventional responsibilities of the Corps in protecting Critical National Assets, regulating and licensing of the Private Guard Companies in Nigeria and being the lead Agency in Disaster Management, Rescue and Mitigation, the establishment of the Agro-Rangers squad to protect the agro-allied investment of the investors has added feather to the Corps activities especially at a time when the Nation is diversifying its economy from the oil and gas sector to Agricultural sector and the need for physical security to protect farmers and their investment mostly with the recent challenges of farmers/herders crisis.
Gana stated further, that with the establishment of the Agro-Rangers about 19 state Governors have visited the Corps Headquarters to request for the squad to assist in their respective states and to replicate the same.
The CG appreciated the Governor for the honour accorded him when he travelled to Imo State to sympathise with the family of the deceased Honourable who died as a result of accidental discharge by the Corps personnel. He thanked the Governor for his support to the Corps in building staff quarters for personnel.
In a swift reaction, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma expressed gratitude to the Commandant General and the Corps, noting that he enjoyed the support and reports he usually receives from the State Command.
According to him, the solidarity visit was to enable him say thank you to the CG for his achievements and the rapid transformation of the Corps under his watch and also to use the opportunity to request for personnel of the Agro-Rangers in the state to support the Government efforts in providing physical security for the civil populace and farmers especially now that is considered to be farming period. He noted that the establishment of Agro-Rangers is the best thing that has happened to the Corps.
His Excellency expressed willingness to donate a parcel of land to the Corps to build a Zonal Command Headquarters to take care of Commands under the Zone which according to him will bring development attraction to the Corps and the State at large in addition to the Staff quarters built.
Governor Uzodinma said the Corps has been so useful to him and the State since assumption of office especially in the arrest of illegal Miners, vandals, and saboteurs involved in crimes affecting the ecological being of the state.
In eulogizing the Corps, he assured of total support, noting that he wants to see in the nearest future a Civil Defence that will be a pride of Africa.
