LAWMA CLEARS WASTE ALONG AYOBO–ISEFUN ROAD

massively deploys equipment and manpower as enforcement and advocacy teams move against re-dumping
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced a major waste evacuation operation along the Ayobo–Isefun Road, with eight compactor trucks and a large complement of sanitation personnel deployed to clear waste accumulated along the road median.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said on Sunday that the intervention was part of the Authority’s sustained efforts to strengthen the zero-waste initiative and ensure a cleaner environment across Lagos.
He said, “Our commitment to achieving a cleaner Lagos remains unwavering. We will continue to deploy the necessary equipment and manpower to clear accumulated waste, while also addressing the behaviours and service gaps that contribute to its recurrence. The evacuation will continue until the entire stretch is clean, and we will not allow cleared locations to become dumping points again.”
Despite the Sunday morning rainfall, sanitation workers and members of the management team remained on the ground to ensure the evacuation of waste from the median, with most sections of the road now left visibly clean.
The operation was complemented by the deployment of enforcement officers, who simultaneously served notices on non-compliant premises as part of efforts to promote adherence to approved waste management practices.

At the same time, LAWMA’s Advocacy Team and Environmental Health Officers engaged residents and traders along the corridor, sensitising them on responsible waste disposal and warning against the re-dumping of waste on the median and other unauthorised locations.
The Authority warned that stiffer measures would be taken against unyielding dumpers and erring Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators whose service failures contribute to waste accumulation in the area.
LAWMA reiterated that the intervention combined waste evacuation, enforcement, advocacy and monitoring to address the causes of recurring waste accumulation and sustain the cleanliness of cleared locations.
The evacuation exercise will continue on Monday until the entire stretch of the Ayobo–Isefun Road is cleared, while the Authority urged residents, businesses and waste generators along the corridor to cooperate with its teams and desist from indiscriminate waste disposal.
