National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD Nigeria, Princess Gloria Akobundu, has urged Nigerian youths to shift emphasis from playing politics to finding ways to contribute adequately to the development of the nation’s economy. While stressing that the multiplier effects of a sustainable economy possess the real solutions to the problems of youth restiveness, drug abuse and other anti-social behaviours of the youth across the country, the NEPAD Nigeria CEO also added that the programmes and activities of the Agency were for the benefit of all in spite of Party affiliation or creed.
Speaking at the Murtala Muhammad Airport, Lagos, over the weekend during an interaction with some leaders of one of the registered political Parties, Young Democratic Party (YDP), who had sought audience with her, the NEPAD Nigeria CEO noted that, in spite of how much she supports youth involvement in politics and leadership, there was the greater imperative for them to first acquire and develop self-sustaining skills that would enable them go through life without being liabilities to their immediate families and to society at large. This, she said, would help to create employment and positively impact the nation’s economy.
Earlier, while appreciating what he termed ‘‘the wonderful job’’ the NEPAD Nigeria boss is doing in the Agency since she took over its leadership late last year, Leader of the Party, Hon. Henry Nwabueze, called on her to work out an Agenda that would make room for partnership with various political Parties in order to make their youths benefit from the programmes and activities of the Agency, which, he noted, were for all Nigerians. Hon. Nwabueze, who was also a member of the last National Conference, enjoined Princess Akobundu to use her wide contacts to canvass support for some of the outcomes of the Conference, noting that the nation would be the better for it in the end.
