National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer, NEPAD Nigeria, Hon. (Princess) Gloria Akobundu, called for more awareness on the programmes and activities of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure full realisation of the goals of the Scheme.
She said this during her enrolment into the Scheme in her office. Princess Akobundu commended the efforts of the Federal Government in the implementation of the NHIS. While noting that the extension of the Scheme to the organised private sector was a step in the right direction, she urged the authorities to strive to ensure total and comprehensive coverage for those that are yet to be captured by it.
Princess Akobundu said that Nigerians in the local areas are in dire need of health insurance programme. She advocated that activities and programmes of the NHIS should be broken down in local languages and taken to the grassroots using traditional communication channels like Community Based Organisations as well as Faith Based Organisations so as to close communication gaps across all groups.
While expressing the co-operation of the NHIS and Integrated Healthcare Ltd., the NEPAD Nigeria Health Management Organisation, officers of the both Organisations, Chieze Sandra and Emilia Iheriohamma lauded the NEPAD CEO for the transformation initiatives that she has brought bear on NEPAD Nigeria within a few months of her appointment into office.
