NEPAD Nigeria CEO, Princess Gloria Akobundu will, Monday, join other distinguished African and world leaders to attend this year’s Africa Week, which is scheduled for the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
According to the Head Media at NEPAD Nigeria, Ekaete Umo, an Assistant Director, the NEPAD Nigeria CEO is expected to participate in the many events lined up for the programme and to contribute to discussions aimed at reinforcing the vision of a prosperous African continent, where the different national economies of the continent are seamlessly integrated and the economic and social participation of all citizens is guaranteed and promoted.
According to Umo, who informed that Akobundu says there is so much for Africa to celebrate, the Africa Week is an initiative of the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Department of Public Information (DPI), the Office of the Permanent Observer of the African Union (AU) to the United Nations, New York, the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency as well as the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), which are co-organising the event.
The Africa Week is organised each year by the aforementioned United Nations System Agencies. This year’s event has the theme: ‘‘Supporting an Integrated, Prosperous, People-Centred and Peaceful Africa: Towards the Implementation of Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’’. The Week will feature prominent personalities, including the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Chief Executive Officer of the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency, the Chairperson of the African Peer Review Panel of Eminent Persons as well as the CEO APRM Secretariat and high-level representatives of the African Regional Economic Communities RECs).
The programme shall come to an end on the 20th of October.
