NEPAD NIGERIA TO FACILITATE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF AU PROGRAMMES IN NIGERIA.
NEPAD Nigeria would serve as the coordinating body and a clearing house to facilitate the implementation of all African Union (AU) programmes and projects in Nigeria. Representatives of NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA), in South Africa stated this during their courtesy visit to the National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of NEPAD Nigeria, Princess Gloria Akobundu in NEPAD Nigeria office in Abuja recently.
The representatives who were on a mission to launch the “National Agriculture Investment Plan (NAIP) Appraisal and Formulation in the Context of CAADP-Malabo Declaration” stated that to ensure proper accountability, transparency and reportage on all AU programmes and projects in Nigeria, NEPAD country office must provide the platform to coordinate all stakeholders.
Mr. Augustine Wombo, who led the mission, added that the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development programme (CAADP) office intends to refresh the Nigerian Agric grant and believes that NEPAD Nigeria has a role to play in driving the process.
Princess Akobundu in her presentation during the courtesy visit, appealed to the Continental Office to always engage the country office in all their activities in Nigeria in order to gain visibility and attract support from the government. She stated that NEPAD being a tool for economic growth and empowerment must be placed at the centre in the coordinating and implementation of not only the Comprehensive African Agricultural Development programme (CAADP) but also other AU programmes and projects in Nigeria.
