The Director General, BPP, Mamman Ahmadu, FNIQS, said, Nigeria is going to benefit from pooled procurement system if implemented. He pointed out that the benefits are enormous as states in Nigeria that keyed into it are doing well with the system.
The DG stated this, while giving his remarks at the opening ceremony of a one-day workshop organized by the Chartered Institute of procurement supply (CIPS UK) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, Bureau of Public procurement (BPP), some selected States Public Procurement Regulatory Bodies and Medical Institutions at the NAF Conference Center in Abuja.
He stated that, pool procurement is a global practice that makes supply chain a teamwork, hence, the workshop has become imperative to provide participants the understanding in the implementation of the system for a global experience in procurement and supply.
Mr. Ahmadu commended the Chartered Institute of Procurement Supply (CIPS, UK) Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) for this invaluable support through the Health Procurement Africa Program, pointing out that, their system strengthening approach helps the Bureau to equip its workforce.
In his remarks the Minister of Health, Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Ms. Daju Kachallom, said, the ministry’s budget was put to improve health’s quality supply chain master, to achieve high supply chain policy. Adding that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in 2023 launched a health care value chain. Stressing that, pool procurement will reduce the burden of health related issues and the financial pain.
The minister urged the participants to use the opportunity to facilitate exchange of ideas and showcase success stories of states that have stated its implementations.

Earlier, in his welcome address, CIPS Head of Procurement Excellence Programme, Mr. Alan Martin, said the workshop is to explore best practices on pool procurement and urged participants to use the time to discuss and build content to secure health consciousness in Nigeria.
At the technical session, facilitators gave lectures; also, discussions/interactions were taken.
MDAs of Tertiary facilities and Heads of procurement from all over the states of the federation attended the workshop. Also, representatives of USAID, NAFDAC, Africa Resource Centre Management and officers from the Bureau of Public Procurement.
