The Commandant General of the NSCDC Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has charged the Corps personnel to remain focused and not be distracted by the campaign of calumny being orchestrated by mischief-makers and fifth columnists peddling all sorts of mudslinging advocacies targeted at the Corps leadership in the media. Emphasizing that the smear campaign is aimed at causing division in the house and any crack on the wall at this time will not augur well for the growth and progress of the Corps which has recorded outstanding successes in its assigned mandates in the last few years owing to the collective zeal, dedication of all officers and men of the Corps, hence, all hands must remain on deck to continue moving the Corps forward. He affirmed that he remains focus and committed to the task of scaling up the fortunes and the integrity of the Corps, while at the same time promoting the welfare of personnel, which necessitates his running an open door policy since assumption of office and opportunities abound to address personnel’s concerns through a well-coordinated internal mechanism set up by his administration for prompt action. He lamented that despite the outstanding performance of the Corps, some people still choose to deride the agency by concocting lies to denigrate the good works of his administration. Describing the various allegations as misleading, deceptive and unfortunate in the face of visible and verifiable facts at the behest of anyone. An instance is the allegation of embezzlement or misappropriation of financial aid from International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) with the Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. As a registered member of the Body, the Corps never received any monetary grant from the body rather, it is the Corps that is duty bound to pay its yearly dues in order to sustain its membership and qualify to participate in the organization’s activities such as elections and free training for personnel. It is on record that the administration of Gana regularized and normalized the once stalemated yearly promotion exercise being organized by the Board governing the agency and subject to availability of vacancies, officers and men of the corps who excel in the promotion exams are promoted on a yearly basis. Equally, the payment of arrears is by the office of Accountant General of the Federation via budgetary allocation, hence, due diligence is always followed and as such, there is no justification for the unnecessary allegations when some inquiries can be done to verify the position of things at the appropriate quarters to help their ignorance. The Corps like other sister agencies in the Ministry of Interior operates on the consolidated salary structure (COMPASS) which encompasses all acclaimed unpaid allowances of personnel. Therefore, the Corps is one of the Agencies that believe in transparency, accountability and due process. However, despite the frivolous and baseless allegations, it is pertinent to say that, the Corps personnel are happy and working tirelessly in actualizing the Corp mandates in protecting critical infrastructure and national assets of government, disaster prevention and mitigation, supervision of the private guards companies and most especially the new born baby of the Corps, the Agro Ranger Squad established by the Commandant General to respond to the hues and cries in the Agro allied sector to provide physical security to farmers as well as the protection of agro allied investment in the country to align with President Buhari’s vision on food sufficiency for all Nigerians.
