The Okpokwu Traditional Council wishes to categorically refute and dissociate itself from the unfounded and politically motivated allegations that it passed a vote of no confidence in Chief (Dr.) Philip Agbese, the distinguished member representing Ado, Ogbadibo, and Okpokwu Federal Constituency.
We wish to draw the attention of the public, particularly the good people of Benue South, to the following clarifications:
1. Baseless Allegations by Paul Ochigbo
The claim made by Paul Ochigbo that the council issued a vote of no confidence in Chief (Dr.) Philip Agbese is entirely false and without merit.
2. Statement by the Ad Okpokwu Okpokwu Chief Hon. James Okefe Ejembi JP .
The Ad’Okpokwu, Chief James Okefe, has disclaimed the alleged proclamation, emphasizing that the council, as a traditional institution, does not engage in political activities or affiliations. Chief Okefe described the claim as a politically motivated falsehood aimed at misleading the public.
3. Disassociation from Paul Ochigbo
The council hereby dissociates itself from Paul Ochigbo, who is no longer the Secretary of the Okpokwu Traditional Council. Ochigbo is currently employed as a revenue officer with the Okpokwu Local Government Council. His statement is influenced by external political interests and does not reflect the position of the council.
4. Recognition of Chief (Dr.) Philip Agbese’s Heritage
The council holds Chief (Dr.) Philip Agbese in high regard as a respected son of royal heritage from Ado Local Government Area. Any attempt to malign his reputation is deemed disrespectful and unacceptable.
5. Assessment of Leadership
The Okpokwu Traditional Council affirms its neutrality in political matters and has expressed satisfaction with the performance of Chief (Dr.) Agbese, describing it as commendable.
The council hereby advises the public to disregard the baseless and politically motivated claims made by Paul Ochigbo. Chief (Dr.) Philip Agbese remains a dedicated servant of the people, with a proven track record of service and leadership both at the grassroots and national levels.
Signed:
Lawrence Ogenyi.
Secretary, Okpokwu Traditional Council
