Senator Abba Moro flags off re-election campaign, assures of continued effective representation
The senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, PhD on Saturday, September 5, 2026, flagged off his re-election campaign for the senatorial election, calling on constituents, supporters, and stakeholders to remain united in the pursuit of effective representation and sustainable development.
Addressing the mammoth crowd that gathered at St. Andrew’s Primary School Field, Otukpo, Senator Moro expressed appreciation for the confidence and support he has received from the people of Benue South across party lines. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing purposeful, accountable, and people-oriented representation.
The senator reeled out his achievements in the National Assembly, which cover life-changing bills, motions and legacy projects that are scattered all over the senatorial district. He pledged to consolidate on those gains, explore bigger opportunities for the people and prioritise issues that directly affect the lives and livelihoods of constituents, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and youth development if re-elected in 2027.
He urged his supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly throughout the political season, stressing the importance of issue-based campaigns and respect for democratic values.
Senator Moro also appealed to the people of Benue South to remain united and participate actively in the democratic process, assuring them that his campaign would be driven by service, integrity, and a commitment to the collective interests of the senatorial district.
The campaign flag-off attracted party leaders, political stakeholders, community leaders, supporters, and well-wishers from across the senatorial district, setting the stage for what is expected to be an issue-based campaign.
In their remarks, the trio of the PDP State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Awulu Adaji; The PDP governorship candidate, Chief Micheal kaase Aondokaa, SAN, and the immediate past governor of Benue State, H.E., Dr Samuel Ortom, lauded Senator Moro’s achievements in the senate and tasked the people to take the message to their villages with a view to securing electoral victory for the senator and all PDP candidates in the 2027 general elections.
They said PDP had returned to its winning ways and urged the people to keep faith with the party.
Highlights of the flag-off were the handing over of flags to Senator Moro, the House of Representatives candidates, and the House of Assembly candidates.
The flag-off also witnessed the defection of a chieftain of the APC, Chief Barr. John Ochoga, to the PDP. Chief Ochoga said his decision to dump the APC was to align with Senator Moro to protect Zone C whose highest political office is the senate. He said he was satisfied with Senator Moro’s performance and had no choice than to support him to win his re-election in 2027.
Also at the flag-off, Senator Moro received endorsement from APC in Zone C. The party said the senator was the best foot for the zone in 2027 and promised to mobilize its members across the senatorial district for his re-election. 
Earlier, Senator Moro was at the Och’Idoma palace to present his Certificate of Return to the Och’Idoma, HRM Agabaidu Dr John Elaigwu Odugbo, and the entire Idoma traditional council for their royal blessing.
The senator said he brought his certificate to the royal fathers as a mark of respect for them before flagging off his campaign and to secure their royal blessing. He assured the Och’Idoma and his council of his continued collaboration for the good of Zone C.
The Och’Idoma, Agabaidu Dr John Elaigwu Odugbo, and the Ad’Enone, HRH, Engr. George Ede, in their separate remarks commended Senator Moro for his humility and wisdom. They said the senator had washed his hands well and was qualified to eat with elders. They prayed for him and wished him well.
At the residence of the Methodist Archbishop of Benue State, Most Rev. Arch Bishop Joshua Yusufu Ngbede, Senator Moro said he and his delegation came to appreciate the religious leaders for their commitment to the development of Zone C and seek their prayers.
Most Rev. Joshua Yusufu Ngbede commended Senator Moro for the visit. He said the church would continue to pray for the senator and for a peaceful Benue South.
