The Executive Director of Victims Support Fund Dr. Sunday Ochoche on Saturday 10th June 2017 paid a commiseration visit to the Specialist Hospital Maiduguri and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). This was to express support and ensure the victims of the recent attacks in Maiduguri were accessing free medical treatment.
The visit also witnessed the signing of the addendum of the Memorandum of Understanding for an additional sum of N10 Million to the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri in the presence of the Borno State Commissioner of Health. This brings the total sum donated to Borno Specialist hospital to N30 million. During the visits Dr Ochoche was given a tour of the two hospitals where victims are being treated.
The Chief Medical Director of the Borno State Specialist Hospital Dr. Laraba Bello appreciated VSF for the funds contributed saying it has assisted the hospital to procure medication and hospital consumables.
Similarly the Chief Medical Director of UMTH Dr. Abdulrahman Tahir appreciated VSF for the donations saying; “We have no problem accessing the funds donated by VSF for the treatment of Boko Haram victims. We have been utilizing the money judiciously since 2015 and we have received a total of N30m”.
This according to him has helped the hospital provide clothing such as hospital gowns for the victims and other personal care items including soap and slippers.
Dr. Ochoche disclosed that the Fund has expanded the scope of treatment to include victims not only affected by bomb blasts but also armed attacks.
He also expressed pleasure that the funds are well utilised and patients can get treatment without having to pay anything.
